Wasp & Hornet Extraction

Paper wasps are our main household pest in this group in Hawaii. Paper wasps build their nests of chewed plant fiber that are often found attached to eaves, outdoor ceilings such as open garages and lanais and sometimes found hanging from tree branches.  Our treatment for paper wasps is to chemically treat the wasp nest in areas where they can be reached within reason and then we will remove the nest if possible.

Yellow jackets are less common in Hawaii but are more aggressive stingers and biters than the paper wasps. They usually build nests in the ground in forested areas and are generally not a household pest.  To treat yellow jackets it is necessary to locate the nest and chemically treat it.  Safety precautions must be taken because yellow jacket nests are large and the yellow jacket wasps can be very aggressive.

Mud daubers rarely sting and are beneficial. The larva feed primarily on spiders that are provided by the mud daubers.  Their mud nests are often found on the outside of homes, on siding, under eaves and other locations.  Pest management is generally unnecessary.  We suggest that the homeowner remove the mud nests by scraping with a putty knife or similar object.
